BREAKING: Yoel Romero and Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson Make Their Bellator MMA Debut in April Against Each Other
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Former UFC talents, Yoel Romero and Anthony Johnson, who took their skills over to Bellator MMA, will duke it out. The aforementioned title challengers at UFC’s middleweight and light heavyweight respectively will scrap on April 17, 2021, in the quarterfinals of a light heavyweight tournament set-up. Romero and ‘Rumble’ who will compete in the quarterfinals at Bellator 257, come in as one of the most anticipated match-ups. Both men have had interesting journeys towards the end of their UFC runs, to say the very least. Additionally, divisional champion Vadim Nemkov rematches former champion, Phil Davis, on the same card in April. Also Read: ‘I Didn’t Want to Fight with the Mask’- Nate Diaz Gives a Bizarre Reason for Not Fighting on the UFC 2020 Calender Bellator 257: Yoel Romero vs Anthony Johnson ‘The Soldier of God’ came into Bellator MMA off the back of an eye-brow raising split with the UFC. Romero who had competed for UFC gold in March 2020 found himself on the out heading into the new year. Fans were taken aback by this move and it’s easy to see why. He’s been a high-caliber title challenger on multiple occasions, and the only thing going against him was father time. Yoel Romero was on somewhat of a skid prior to his departure. However, his losses came only to the division’s best. He lost narrow decisions to Robert Whittaker, Paulo Costa, and Israel Adesanya in a fight he could have stolen away. Regardless of his skid, there was little doubt that he entered the free market as a valuable commodity. Anthony Johnson has been out of the game for a while now. His last fight came in 2017 when he submitted to Daniel Cormier at UFC 210 and retired. Prior to his last fight, ‘Rumble’ was on a three-fight win streak, having flatlined all his opposition via KO. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)The 43-year-old Romero is on a final run and ‘Rumble’ is making a comeback to the cage. Hence, the aforementioned fight offers several intriguing narratives heading in, none more so than the odds of a violent KO. Both men personified explosiveness and power throughout their UFC run, and it wouldn’t be wise to blink during their scrap. Not to mention, Romero and Johnson have both chased belts multiple times, making this potentially their last shot. Who do you think will win? How To Train Like Georges St-Pierre? Firas Zahabi Tells You
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Firas Zahabi, the current owner and head coach of the Tristar Gym in Quebec, Canada, shared his opinion on how athletes should train. The gym is famous for having one of the greatest fighters of all time, Georges St-Pierre, on its roster. Georges St-Pierre has been known for his highly productive training style, which may have been incorporated at this gym. Zahabi talked to Joe Rogan on the JRE podcast about the same. MMA fans can credit Zahabi for instilling this work ethic in ‘Rush’, and it’s a testament to his brilliance that St-Pierre is still in great shape despite being almost 40. Zahabi said, “I am a big believer in never being sore. You should train, and on the next day, you should wake up feeling good.” He explained, “There’s something called the weight of perceived exertion. Let’s say I make you do pull-ups, and the max amount of pull-ups you can do is ten... Should I make you do 10 pull-ups? No, I am gonna make you do five. Why? Cause I am setting you up to work for the next day.” Zahabi believes that if he makes a person do ten pull-ups every day, the person will get sore. Instead, he’ll make the person do five pull-ups so that he can come back in and do five the next day and so on, without being fatigued. Also Read: “I Wanted to be Michael Jordan”- When Daniel Cormier Opened up on Having an NBA Career The unique training regimen that helped Georges St-Pierre Zahabi wants his fighters to go easy and feel good after exercising rather than working themselves into the ground. He explained that it is better to do a little exercise daily rather than stretching oneself out and recuperating over the next couple of days. This, when it adds up, results in the daily exercise having more volume than the periodic exercise. The coach said, “Don’t go into the phase where your body is broken and tight and beat up; don’t redline the body. That’s only for training camps, for a small period of time. Cause you get a little bit more from the system, but in the long run, you get less. In the long run, you have taxed the system. So if you do that regularly, by the time you actually get good at it, you’ll be broken up.” NEW YORK, NY – NOVEMBER 04: Georges St-Pierre of Canada celebrates his submission victory over Michael Bisping of England in their UFC middleweight championship bout during the UFC 217 event inside Madison Square Garden on November 4, 2017, in New York City. (Photo by Brandon Magnus/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)This system worked perfectly for St-Pierre who set unprecedented records in the UFC and remained relatively injury-free. Hence, it could set a precedent for trainers and athletes worldwide, and it’s something every gym could adopt. Tony Ferguson Could Fight Kevin Lee in His Next UFC Fight
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Kevin Lee was touted as the next ‘big thing’ in the lightweight division. From April 2016 to June 2017, ‘The Motown Phenom’ went on an incredible five-fight win streak. Lee is a very good wrestler and is good on the feet as well, therefore there was good reason to believe that he would be a real problem at 155-pounds.  At UFC 216, Lee faced arguably his toughest test to date when he took on Tony Ferguson. The fight was supposed to be a litmus test for Lee to see if he truly belongs among the elite in the most talent stacked division in the UFC. The fight did not go Lee’s way, and since then, Lee has not been able to find his groove.  Read: Khabib Nurmagomedov Not Planning to Enter Politics Says Coach Javier Mendez Can Kevin Lee bounce back and secure a win over Tony Ferguson? Kevin Lee recently replied to a Tweet saying, “Me and @TonyFergusonXT gonna run it back”. Both men have struggled off late. Since his loss to Tony, ‘The Motown Phenom’ has lost three of his last five fights across two weight classes. After the demise of his head coach, Lee was at crossroads and decided to join Firas Zahabi, one of the brightest minds in MMA. It looked as though the new partnership was the right one, as Lee absolutely demolished a highly touted Gregor Gillespie. Unfortunately, in his very next fight, Lee succumbed to a third-round submission loss against Charles Oliveira. Ferguson, on the other hand, is 0-2 in his last two fights, having been utterly dominated in both fights. Ferguson desperately needs a win as he risks getting himself cut from the UFC if he continues his dismal run of form.  A fight against Lee might be exactly what Tony needs right now. A challenger who he secured an impressive win over. For Lee as well, avenging his loss against Tony Ferguson can be just the fight to put him back into the win column.  For Tony, a loss might be more devastating than it would be for Kevin Lee at this point in their respective careers. However, for fans, this will be an extremely interesting matchup.  What do you make of a fight between Lee and Ferguson? Let us know in the comments below! Cory Sandhagen and Other Bonus Winners at UFC Fight Night 184
By admin | | 0 Comments |

UFC Fight Night 184 saw some spectacular fights and finishes throughout the fight card. Both the main card and the preliminary card comprised 6 fights each. Cory Sandhagen stole the show with his sensational flying knee knockout win over Frankie Edgar. Furthermore, Russian heavyweight, Alexander Volkov, also had his glory moment as he knocked out Alistair Overeem. BLOODBATH! Taylor Starling and Charisa Sigala Stun Everyone at BKFC
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Last night’s Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship event saw former UFC flyweight Paige VanZant make her much-anticipated promotional debut. VanZant lost via unanimous decision despite her valiant efforts. But it was two other ladies that stole the show on last night’s BKFC fight card. Taylor Starling and Charisa Sigala threw over 500 strikes combined, leaving each other a bloody mess. Ultimately, Starling won via unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecard. The flyweight clash certainly turned out to be the fight of the night, for sure. The 5-round war kicked off the card, and it was suiting of an opener. In a back-and-forth battle, both fighters left their all inside the ring and proved their mettle. Starling was given two dominant rounds where he knocked down her opponent, Sigala, to the ground. Starling threw fewer strikes than her opponent, but landed more efficient and damaging shots. She landed 70 of her 214 shots, compared to Sigala’s 67 of 298 punches. In a battle for the ages, both fighters showed what bare knuckle fighting is actually all about, and how much resilience it takes for a fighter to step inside the rings. A true display of heart, grit, courage, and skill was on display last night. These are the battles that fans love to see. One might find similarities between this match and UFC’s fight between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Weili Zhang last year. Paige VanZant finally made her much anticipated BKFC debut ’12 Gauge’ finally stepped inside the ring for her new promotion against Britain Hart. VanZant started her fight really well, troubling Hart with her rejuvenated striking. But as the rounds progressed, Hart took control of things and eventually won a unanimous decision. Nevertheless, VanZant has certainly shown promise and glimpses of her talent. One can expect only better things to come from her. Despite a bloody and ruthless night of fighting, it was great to see fighters embracing and comforting each other in the end. They signified the true meaning of combat sport, where it’s all said and done after the competition ends. What did you make of the bloodbath between Taylor Starling and Charisa Sigala? McGregor admits focusing on Pacquiao too much ahead of Poirier bout
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Jan 23, 2021; Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Conor McGregor of Ireland punches Dustin Poirier in a lightweight fight during the UFC 257 event inside Etihad Arena on UFC Fight Island. Mandatory Credit: Jeff Bottari/Handout Photo via USA TODAY Sports MANILA, Philippines—After his shock loss, Conor McGregor admitted that he was at fault for not focusing thoroughly on his UFC return and was instead thinking of his potential boxing match against Manny Pacquiao. His one-year layoff ended in a disappointing finish when he suffered a second round knockout finish at the hands of Dustin Poirier last month. Usually a brash and sometimes arrogant fighter, McGregor showed an all too different side during the buildup for the Poirier fight showing his opponent with the utmost respect and kindness that extended to his post-fight musing. McGregor, whose previous fight was a knockout win over Donald Cerrone in January 2020, fell flat against Poirier and he said that he fully deserved to lose in UFC 257. McGregor and Pacquiao’s teams had been in communication for a possible boxing fight with the mixed martial arts superstar hinting that the match would happen some time in 2021. However, MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons said that demand for the fight “not there presently” after McGregor’s setback. “ A little single disciplined in my approach and stance with mostly boxing. It’s what I get for picking this bout and opponent as a precursor to a boxing match against Pacman,” wrote McGregor. “I deserved to get the legs kicked off me going in with this thinking. This is not the game to play around with.” “First time to experience it. Then a tremendous finishing flurry by my opponent. Hats off! A well fought fight by The Diamond.” Poirier, who lost in the first fight against McGregor, pinned the Irishman against the cage midway through the second round and it was there that he ultimately got his retribution landing several punches before referee Herb Dean stopped the affair 2:32 into the frame. With his loss in the rearview mirror, McGregor said he’s looking forward to a trilogy with Poirier. “What a trilogy I now have on my hands. Exciting! With a handle on the leg kicks I will get back to having fun in there. I was in second gear cruising this fight. Best condition I’ve ever been in,” wrote McGregor. “I enjoyed racking up some more time inside the famed UFC Octagon. 40 seconds in 3 years is all I’d had up to this bout. I was savoring every second and enjoying my work.” Read Next Don't miss out on the latest news and information.
