IND vs ENG | Have played around the world but winning the Chennai Test incomparable, insists Jofra Archer
By admin | | 0 Comments |

England's Jofra Archer tasted success in his very first Asia Test in India, which is rare, and the pacer has admitted that nothing compares to this win having played all around the world. He also termed the fifth day Chennai surface the worst he has seen, though he expected more fight from India.Winning in India remains the biggest challenge for Test teams in world cricket. No other team even comes close to India's crazy home record. They last lost a Test series in 2012/13 while, overall, they have only lost two Test series since the start of the century. In the last decade, Team India lost only three Tests at home. So, all these stats plus the high of winning Test series Down Under with a depleted side made Virat Kohli's men the topdogs to win the first Test against England. Unlike the Australia series, however, India didn't even show any fight let alone being in game to win. England were clinical enough throughout the game and never gave India a sniff for a fightback. Jofra Archer, who was crucial in England's first innings bowling efforts, taking two wickets in his opening spell, expressed his pleasure at winning the Chennai Test, a feeling and feat which he finds 'incomparable'. "I’ve played in tournaments around the world, and had success, but winning a Test is one of those indescribable feelings, especially against a really good team. Nothing compares," Archer wrote in his column for the Daily Mail, reported HT.There was a lot of hype around the Chepauk wicket. It was heavily criticized in 2016 when it hosted India and England for being excessively flat. But this time the newly appointed curator had promised that there will be sporting wicket with English looks that will support pace bowlers on first day, followed by two batting days and then the last two days in favor of spinners. On the contrary the first two days of the Test was akin to a graveyard for bowlers. There wasn't much carry on the wicket which was slow and turned tricky and unfavorable by the time India's first innings commenced on day three. Commenting on the surface, Archer stated that it was the 'worst surface' that he had seen. He also added that he didn't expect India to surrender so quickly on final day of the Test series opener. “On the fifth day, it was probably the worst surface I’ve seen — its orange colour, bits missing, rough patches for the bowlers to aim at. When we walked out in search of nine wickets on the fifth day, I was very hopeful we would complete the job — although these India players have big reputations and are at home, so should be able to cope with conditions better than anyone. So, I didn’t expect us to skittle them. Equally, I didn’t expect it to finish not long after afternoon drinks."India will take on England in second Test in Chennai again from Saturday onwards before the Caravan moves to Ahmedabad for the last two Tests of the series. At the moment, England have a lead of 1-0.  Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | 2nd Test in Chennai – Statistical Preview
By admin | | 0 Comments |

After a humdinger of a first Test saw the visitors, unexpectedly, come out on top, India and England will clash once again in Chennai from Saturday in the second Test of the four-match series. England will need to win to boost their WTC hopes, while a loss would knock India out of WTC contention.Form GuideRarely do teams win three away matches on the trot in Test cricket, but this English side, earlier this week, doubled this figure. Yep, with the victory in the first Test against India in Chennai, Joe Root’s men stretched their away winning streak to SIX(!!!). Dating back to 2018, England have also now won six consecutive matches in the sub-continent and in the first Test, they played like a team that have well and truly mastered the art of playing in Asian conditions. They batted long - excruciatingly long, you could say - got their tactics, team selection spot on and showcased immense patience with the ball to dominate India across five full days. Perhaps for the first time in 16 years, India might just be entering a home Test not as favourites. India - L W DIndia entered the first Test in Chennai with their confidence at its absolute zenith, but, as it turned out, they were found guilty of still being in the Brisbane hangover. A toothless performance with the ball was succeeded by an abomination of a first-innings effort with the bat and the two things combined to hand them their second defeat at home in seven years. Virat Kohli and the boys certainly have the quality to bounce back, but whether they will be physically and mentally up for the challenge remains to be seen.Key batsmenEngland - Joe RootIndia - Virat KohliVirat Kohli entering an already-formidable batting line-up was supposed to spell trouble for England, but an extremely nervous outing in the first inning - where he needed to cash in - meant that he barely hurt the Three Lions. After going century-less in the entirety of 2020, Kohli needed to go big in response to England’s 578 to keep India in the game but, unfortunately, he wasn’t able to do so. Both India and Kohli would, however, take heart from the right-hander’s showing in the second innings, where he looked in ominous touch for 103 balls before being castled by a Ben Stokes delivery that kept tantalizingly low. England - Jack LeachIn the span of two days, Jack Leach went from being a meme to a match-winner. At one stage in the first innings, when Pant was wreaking havoc, Leach threatened to finish with abominable figures but as soon as the southpaw departed, the left-armer turned into a completely different beast - not just in the first innings, but for the rest of the game. It was his 4/76 - notably the wicket of Pujara - which punctured the Indian batting line-up and the Somerset man is now making a habit of murdering teams on the final day. He now averages a remarkable 17.52 in the fourth innings, so, should the Chennai wicket in the second Test offer any turn, you bet this nerdy left-armer would be licking his lips to yet again run through the Indian batting. There were not many Indian players who, after the first Test, earned the right to walk with their head high, but Ravichandran Ashwin certainly was one. The first Test was as much Ashwin vs England as it was India vs England. Through some immeasurable graft - he bowled the most number of overs he ever has in a Test - and relentlessly consistent mastery, Ashwin kept India in the game single-handedly. He was duly rewarded for his efforts with a six-wicket haul, but so poor was the performance from his teammates that his toil ended up being rendered useless. Even if he’s only 70% fit, trust Ashwin to spin a web around the English batsmen come Saturday.Predicted XIEngland: Rory Burns, Dom Sibley, Dan Lawrence, Joe Root (c) Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope, Ben Foakes (wk) Dom Bess, Jofra Archer, Jack Leach, Stuart Broad.India:Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (c) Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (wk),  Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Kuldeep YadavVenue: M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, ChennaiWhen to Watch: Feb 13, 9.30 AM ISTWhere to Watch: Star Sports Network and Hotstar (in India)Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | Moeen Ali has worked hard, we have full confidence in him, asserts Chris Silverwood
By admin | | 0 Comments |

English coach Chris Silverwood has full faith in experienced English all-rounder Moeen Ali's abilities should he play in the second Test against India. It was surprising to see the all-rounder missing out in the Test series opener after he had missed the last series against Sri Lanka due to COVID.Moeen Ali has been one of England's key players in Asia given he bowls off-spin and is pretty handy with the bat in the sub-continent conditions against spin. After missing out in the two-match Test series in Sri Lanka, it was expected that the all-rounder, who last featured in a Test as long back as 2019 Ashes, will feature in the XI in the first Test against India. But it was not to be as England surprisingly overlooked him. Now, for the second Test, he can come into picture if not as one of the two spinners then perhaps in place of someone like Daniel Lawrence, especially after the youngster failed with the bat.English coach Chris Silverwood revealed that Moeen has worked hard and should he play, he has full faith that the 33-year-old will do well."Moeen has worked as hard as he can with the facilities we have," Silverwood said. "Obviously he has not played in a game and we know that. We accept that those are the times we are in, but should he play, I would have every confidence in him," Silverwood said, reported ESPN. After an impressive first innings where he took four wickets, offie Dom Bess struggled largely in the second innings but the English head coach is confident that such things are part and parcel of the game. There were quite a few full tosses and long hops delivered by the young spinner, which isn't common when it comes to specialist spinners in Tests and were on display even in Lanka Tests. "I think he just had a bad day, which can happen to anybody. The top and bottom of that one is that we'll get in the nets on Thursday and we'll get bowling again and I'm sure he'll get straight back on the bike. I'm not concerned at this moment in time. Did he have an attack of the yips? No, absolutely not."I am not worried. I had a chat with him afterwards and he's still in good spirits. Everybody has a bad day and I can accept that. It's not through lack of effort. We get to the nets, work hard again and find him some rhythm: I am sure he will be fine," he said. With the second Test at the same venue, Chepauk, crowds are set to return back to the picture and Silverwood is quite excited about the same heading into the next game. "Am not concerned about the bubble aspect. They have been brilliant and we all feel safe. And from the crowd point of view, we will be having noise in the ground again and it will be fantastic," Silverwood said, reported TOI. "I mean if we get anything like that, like some sort of normality, it will make everything just a bit more buzz really and I think it will be great. We have got no concerns (on fans being allowed for the 2nd Test). Since we have been here, we have been very well looked after and we feel safe in the environment," he added. Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | Don’t see any reason why Washington Sundar should be replaced, asserts Deep Dasgputa
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar has come under scanner after a poor first Test with the ball but former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgputa has thrown his weight behind the youngster. He, however, also added that both Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are quality options for the second Test.Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem and all-rounder Washington Sundar have been criticized for their role with the ball in first Test after a lackluster performance. Not since Kevin Pietersen's epic 186 in Mumbai in 2012 has there been many instances when Indian spinners have been hammered as brutally as the Chennai Test. Barring R Ashwin, who fought back well in the second innings and ended with nine wickets in the game, the other two spinners were taken for a ride, which completely worked against India.Shahbaz Nadeem conceded 233 runs for his four wickets in the first Test and gave runs at 3.80 per over in first innings and 4.40 in the second innings respectively. On the other hand, Washington Sundar, fresh from his heroics at Gabba, was also exposed, as he went wicketless in the game and was dealt with as ease as if a part-timer that too at his own home ground. However, Washington had a great outing with the bat in the first innings as he scored a brilliant half-century and would have even got to his century had he gotten more support from the other end. Former Indian wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta has batted for the all-rounder, stating that he doesn't see any reason to drop the 21-year-old.“Honestly with how Shahbaz bowled in the last Test match I think there will be replacement. Washington Sundar was played more as a batsman who can bowl somebody who can bat at number 7 and he did a wonderful job, especially in the first innings, the way he batted. So I don't see any reason why Washington should be replaced unless it's a strategic call,” Dasgupta said on Sports Today, reported HT.As per reports, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are likely to come in place of Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Nadeem respectively. The cricket pundit, however, feels both are quality options but reckons only one of the two might play."I do see a replacement but the question is who. I think both Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel are quality choices. Axar would have been your first choice even in the first Test match but unfortunately, he was injured. Axar could be a very, very good choice and so will Kuldeep but I think Axar because left-arm orthodox spinner brings in more control, that's the reason why he might be preferred and it's a straight swap, Axar coming in for Nadeem (both are left-arm spinners). I don't see both of them playing together and I guess Axar will be a choice," Dasgupta said.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | There were times when Virat was hard to understand as captain in first Test, feels Sanjay Manjrekar
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar has stated that there were certain times in the first Test loss against England when Virat Kohli's captaincy was hard to decode. He  added that there were no issues with team selection but did concede that England were tactically superior to India. India lost a Test at their home which is as rare as a feat as you would see in cricket after they had lost only three Tests in the last decade. They received a complete mauling at the hands of the Three Lions, who didn't let the pressure evaporate and dominated extensively for first four days which culminated into a famous Test victory mid-way through the final day. India's bowling struggled greatly on a flat pitch in the first innings and then the batting was also not up to the mark after a historic Test series win Down Under.Former Indian batsman and famous cricket pundit Sanjay Manjrekar has asserted that there were times when he couldn't understand what Indian skipper Virat Kohli was doing, though he refused to admit that India had bad tactics overall. "Tactically, the small parts of the game where Washington Sundar I think bowled the wrong line to begin with. He is a great guy to bowl outside off stump and when he did that, it troubled the opposition batsmen. That's where Virat Kohli is a little hard to understand, with his overall strategy and team selection." Manjrekar said on ESPNCricinfo, reported HT.Shahbaz Nadeem, who had come in as last minute replacement in the team for Axar Patel, had a horrible outing as he was targeted by the English batsmen mercilessly throughout the Test. Manjrekar wasn't too happy with the way the field was set when the left-arm spinner was bowling. "His first few overs (Nadeem), he had two people on the drive. Maybe the bowlers weren't allowed to begin with to bowl to the field that he wanted. But more than tactics, India's ability in this match fell short and they would want to make amends in the second Test. Tactically, England were superior but I won't say that India blundered tactically," Manjrekar said. There was also quite a bit uproar when India decided to leave out Kuldeep Yadav for the first Test but Manjrekar felt the selection was fair. "I wouldn't say India had bad tactics or they blundered on tactics. Team selection I think was fair. People are talking about Kuldeep Yadav now because Shahbaz Nadeem hasn't bowled well. This was a tailor-made pitch for him," After losing the first Test, India will take on England in the second game of the four-match Test series from Saturday onwards at the same venue amid the crowd returning to the scene. Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

Reports | No drastic difference in pitch for 2nd Test; Kuldeep and Axar likely to play
By admin | | 0 Comments |

There will reportedly be no drastic difference in the pitch for the second Test at Chepauk and there are high chances of Axar Patel making his Test debut with Kuldeep Yadav returning to the side. After losing the first Test by a massive margin of 227 runs, India will look to bounce back. With the new stadium in Ahmedabad likely to have some assistance for pacers, at least, if one has to take the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament into consideration, India could be in trouble if they don't win the second Test. The newly built stadium will be hosting the third Test which will be a day-night affair and also the last Test, which will be a normal red-ball game. Taking about first Test, it favored the team winning the toss greatly as there was quite a bit difference in the pitch on first two days and from third day onwards when India batted. Overall, the pitch was flat and slow, didn't have much carry and was anything but sporting as the curator had promised ahead of the series. And as per reports, there won't be drastic difference in the pitch though the curator might leave a bit of grass for better carry and bounce. But an out and out turner is highly unlikely.“What Virat must have meant was that the pitch lacked carry. It had turn and bounce — he himself got out in the first innings to one that did both — but the ball was stopping on the batsmen from Day 3, which didn’t help Indian batsmen at all,” a source in the know told TOI.Two players have come under scanner greatly after the first Test loss, Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Nadeem. Both the spinners copped heavy pasting at the hands of the Englishmen who treated the duo with disdain as the spinners were quite average. And with Axar Patel fit and likely to return, Shahbaz Nadeem is likely to be dropped with Sundar's place also also not certain. It also brings Kuldeep Yadav, who was set to play the first Test too if Axar had not got injured, into the picture.“His (Washington) primary job is to bowl off-spin where he was a bit of a letdown. If Axar comes in, he can bat at No. 7 and the management may look to try a wrist-spinner,” the source added.“While Kuldeep will bring the ball in to the right-hander, Chahar will take it away. It will be entirely Virat’s call who he thinks is the right fit,” the source added. Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

T Natarajan released from Tamil Nadu Vijay Hazare squad to stay ‘fresh’ for England ODIs and T20Is
By admin | | 0 Comments |

T Natarajan, who starred in the ODIs and T20Is versus Australia, has been released by the TNCA from Tamil Nadu’s Vijay Hazare squad upon request from the BCCI to not overburden him. Natarajan is instead now expected to head to the NCA in Bengaluru to prepare for the England ODIs and T20Is.Tamil Nadu have been dealt a minor blow in their pursuit of doing a limited-overs double in the 2020/21 domestic season as pace spearhead T Natarajan, who last week was named in the squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, has been released from the TN squad upon request from the BCCI. Natarajan was all set to feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy prior to the 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs versus England, but the BCCI, earlier this week, intervened and requested the TNCA to release the 29-year-old.The Indian management are said to have been keen in keeping the left-arm pacer fresh, and thus the Sunrisers Hyderabad star will now instead head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru where he will gear up for the England tour."The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team management want him fresh. It is in the national interest and so we are ready to oblige," Cricbuzz quoted TNCA secretary S Ramasamy as saying.  "We had named a replacement should he be not available and that issue has been sorted out. We have released Natarajan."Natarajan was a key part of the Tamil Nadu squad in the 2019/20 Vijay Hazare Trophy, in which the Dinesh Karthik-led side reached the final. The left-armer took 12 wickets in 11 innings at a miserly ER of 4.19 and was one of the major reasons behind a young Tamil Nadu side reaching the final of the competition. Having won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last month without the services of Natarajan, the DK-led side would be aiming to replicate the same feat come the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which will commence on February 20.  Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

IND vs ENG | If India win the toss, Virat Kohli can score 250, proclaims Ashish Nehra
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Ashish Nehra, after India’s loss against England in Chennai, has proclaimed that if India wins the toss in the second Test, Virat Kohli would score a 250, just like Joe Root did in the first Test. He also insisted that Kohli takes pride in not getting out and scoring his own runs, which is special.Right from the start of the Test, after losing the toss, the Indian team were constantly put under the pump by the visiting English side. There was never a point in the game where the hosts were in contention of pulling things back after such a strong start for Joe Root and his men. However, one of the major talking points from the first Test in Chennai was the toss factor, which ultimately tilted the game in England’s favour. Ashish Nehra, who was part of the broadcasting team, proclaimed that if India won the toss in the second Test, Virat Kohli too like Joe Root would go on to score a daddy double hundred. He also praised the Indian skipper for showing pride in scoring his own runs, even when scoring was tough on the day five pitch. "You are talking about one or two centuries, I would say when India wins the toss, he will score 250 also," Nehra said on Star Sports, reported HT."This is the special thing about Virat Kohli. When Ashwin got out, he knew that they will lose the match but he did not play any airy-fairy shots. He takes pride in scoring his own runs, that he should not get out. Anyone would have got out to the ball he was dismissed, it kept extremely low,” he added. The 32-year-old kick-started his innings with three boundaries off Dominic Bess. From thereon, the right-hander was incredible in his approach, with his false shot percentage just standing at 1% at one time. His enigmatic batting and the control that he exhibited was undone by a low-biner from Ben Stokes. The Indian skipper has gone eight Test innings without a century, going into the second Test. "He kept at it which you need to do on the fourth and fifth days on a subcontinent pitch. The desire makes this player different from others and it is not only here, when he couldn't score runs in England, very few people would have seen Virat Kohli lunging forward to play the defensive shots. To do that, you need the fitness," Nehra said.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

Ind vs Eng Test Series: Chris Silverwood says not reluctant to change a winning team
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Ind vs Eng Test Series: England head coach Chris Silverwood on Wednesday said that he will not hesitate to follow the rotation policy despite the visiting side winning the first Test against India.England defeated India by 227 runs in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday. James Anderson produced three of the best possible deliveries to dismiss Shubman Gill, Ajinkya Rahane, and Rishabh Pant. During the Sri Lanka tour, England followed the rotation policy and played Stuart Broad in the first Test while pacer James Anderson was picked in the playing XI for the second Test.Silverwood said he is not reluctant to change the winning combination despite knowing India will bounce back hard.“I’m not reluctant to change a winning team now. If it’s the best thing to do for the players and the team and the longevity of it,” Silverwood said in the virtual press conference shared by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Wednesday.“You run the risk of the result being different, you could play the same team and the result would be different because we know India will come back hard. We know they’re a very good team and we’ve got the utmost respect for them,” he added.Wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler is rested for the last three Tests and Ben Foakes might get a chance to play on Saturday.“Ben is looking good and has been training hard and obviously having this opportunity coming his way has given him a great focus over the last couple of weeks,” said Silverwood.“I don’t see it as weakening, I see it as an opportunity for people to come in and show what they can do as well because last time he was in the subcontinent he was very successful. So I am looking forward to him,” he added.England’s winning start against India in their ICC World Test Championship series has kept alive the visiting side’s hopes of making the final of the nine-team competition. The victory at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday lifted England to first place and 70.2 percentage points on the points table and they’ve improved their chances of securing one of the three series results in their favour that could see them through to the final – 3-1, 3-0 or 4-0.New Zealand has already qualified for the final winning 70.0 per cent of their matches (with no other series scheduled) while India and Australia remain in contention for the other place along with England.India and England will now lock horns in the second Test from Saturday.
