Inzamam thinks Danish, Khushdil, Asif can solve Pakistan’s lower-order problem
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Karachi: Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq thinks that Pakistan’s lower-order problem might come to an end after the inclusion of Danish Aziz, Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah in the side. While previewing the Pakistan-South Africa T20I series on Pakistan Cricket Board’s Youtube channel, the former chief selector stated that the national team was lacking in this department despite being the number one in T20I rankings. “Our slot was quite weak and we didn’t have those hitters in the past who can hit in the middle-overs when we were also ranked No.1,” Inzamam said. “The selectors have tried to bring back Asif Ali and have inducted Danish Aziz, who can hit boundaries while batting at the fifth and sixth spot, having the ability to finish the match. While Khushdil is also a similar kind of player and is with the team in last four to five series,” he added. Batting legend also praised the inclusion of spinners in the side. “Zahid Mehmood has earned his maiden call-up, Zafar Gohar, Mohammad Nawaz have come again while Usman Qadir is also there. We can also call some of them as half-allrounders,” he added. Note, Pakistan and South Africa will lock horns in the three-match T20I series from today at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. What to expect from PAKvSA T20Is?
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Following an exciting two-match Test series, the home side Pakistan and inexperienced South Africa go head to head in the shortest format of the game. All three T20Is are scheduled to take place at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on February 11, 13 and 14. The matches will start at 6.00 pm (PST) and will be live-streamed on Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) YouTube channel. For the fans in Pakistan, the series can be called as ‘starter’ to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six which is scheduled to start from February 20 at National Stadium, Karachi while the visitors will look to stamp their authority after humiliation in Tests but for this, they would have to come harder without their seasoned campaigners. Pakistan will look to take inspiration from Napier T20I against New Zealand where they won a thrilling encounter by five wickets and due to their solid home record after a horrible defeat to Sri Lanka. But the wins at home for Pakistan have come against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe while Proteas are fourth at the team rankings, they pose a bigger threat to them despite their T20 regulars. Pakistan Pakistan were ranked No.1 when they last played South Africa and this series also presents a similar kind of situation to further improve rankings as they are bound to play almost 20 T20Is before the T20 World Cup in India later this year. Although, Pakistan have dropped few of their core members while some of them were unavailable, but the series has the perfect opportunity for the likes of Iftikhar Ahmed, Hussain Talat, Aamir Yamin, Hasan Ali, Asif Ali and Usman Qadir to cement their place. Uncapped players Danish Aziz, Amad Butt, Zahid Mehmood and Zafar Gohar, who were constantly knocking the doors of the national team through their performances in domestic cricket, can also make their case strong going forward. Meanwhile, Pakistan might look to rest key members Shaheen Shah, Mohammad Rizwan and Faheem Ashraf in some of these fixtures as they had a exhausting time in the middle during Tests. Read: ‘We are here with strong mindset to win the series’ Miller For the Men in Green, skipper Babar Azam returns to normal after he missed out on the series in New Zealand due to thumb injury. He has a great record against the Proteas, scoring 151 runs in three outings at an average of 50.33 and strike-rate of 157. Pakistan squad: Babar Azam (c), Aamer Yamin, Amad Butt, Asif Ali, Danish Aziz, Faheem Ashraf, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hussain Talat, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shaheen Afridi, Usman Qadir, Zafar Gohar, Zahid Mahmood South Africa South Africa under the stand-in captain Henrich Klassen has the bulk of responsibility alongside David Miller, Reeza Hendricks, Andile Phehlukwayo and Tabraiz Shamsi, who are coming with a good amount of experience in this format. It should also be recalled that initially, they planned to send key players back home in order to stay fresh for Australia Tests but still after the cancellation, they didn’t make any changes in the squad which was quite surprising viewing it is the year of T20 World Cup. They have an edge in terms of head to head results against the home side, beating them in eight matches and losing only six while they also have a good record in Asia, winning 18 out of their 28. Few players can come out as a wildcard for Proteas in this series. The 24-year Janneman Malan and all-rounder George Linde, who took fifer in the last Test. Malan is in a good form with scores of 67, 95 and 69* in last three List A matches. He also has a healthy strike-rate of 135 in T20 cricket that can allow South Africa to have the best of starts from the top. With a good knowledge of the conditions after playing Test series, Linde can be vital for South Africa in T20Is. The 29-year-old has a vast experince of 84 T20 matches and also bats at a strike rate of 130+ with bowling economy of 7.32. South Africa squad: Heinrich Klaasen (c), Nandre Burger, Okuhle Cele, Junior Dala, Bjorn Fortuin, Reeza Hendricks, George Linde, Janneman Malan, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Ryan Rickelton, Tabraiz Shamsi, Lutho Sipamla, Jon-Jon Smuts, Pite van Biljon, Glenton Stuurman, Jacques Snyman Read more: ‘Miller unavailable for PSL 6’s first half – CSA confirms Comments comments

LAHORE: Pakistan’s batting coach termed the T20I series against South Africa, a chance for youngsters to prove themselves at home ground.  Khan told reporters in a virtual conference on Wednesday that the upcoming three-matches T20I home series against South Africa will boost the morale of young cricketers. “It is very important for players to play at home ground and I mentioned it earlier too. Players are made by playing at home conditions because they are used to the environment,” he said. “This tour is a great chance for players like Haider Ali and Danish Aziz to prove themselves. I hope they perform well on their chance and make this series big for them,” he added. The former cricketer said the team’s confidence is high after defeating South Africa 2-0 in the Test series. “When you win, everything is alright then. With your confidence, your energy, and the team environment, everything goes well. The boys are confident after winning the series and we are really looking forward to winning this series,” he mentioned. On the other hand, Khan missed the home crowd which was not allowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Had crowd there in the stadium, the Test series win against South Africa would have been more exciting. Unfortunately, we missed them but I hope to see them soon in the stadium,” he concluded. ‘We are here with strong mindset to win the series’ Miller
By admin | | 0 Comments |

LAHORE: South African batsman David Miller said they have a young squad but ready to give a tough time to Pakistan in the three-matches T20I series, starting on February 11 here at Gaddafi Stadium.  Speaking to reporters via virtual conference, Miller said a lot of people talking about them being a young side in front of a full-flesh Pakistani squad but cricket is a mindset game, the team who plays better on the day, wins. “A lot of chat is there that we come here with an inexperienced side but actually we gave chances to our young faces who did really well in the domestic circuit,” he said. “We are here with a clear mindset to win this series. We respect the Pakistan side’s strength but we have some really good players who are able to give a tough time to the home side. We are optimistic to perform up to our ability and try to win this series,” he added. Miller said they have been looked after well in Pakistan since their arrival and their preparation is going well for the series. “We landed here a couple of days ago and tried to adjust in the condition as quickly as possible. Players have adopted the environment well and we have practiced on the ground yesterday. The bounce is a little low here as compare to South Africa but I am sure players would plan accordingly following their immense experience of playing cricket around the globe and obviously in similar conditions before,” he said. Talking about his performance and confidence ahead of the series, Miller said he is fresh and confident after playing a cricket league and domestic competition amid COVID-19. “Yes, I have participated in a cricket league a few months back and a domestic tournament. I am mentally fresh and really looking forward to this challenge,” he concluded. Pakistan and South Africa will play three T20Is on February 11, 13, and 14 here at Gaddafi Stadium. Babar Azam aims to win Test series on away tours
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Rawalpindi: Pakistan men’s team captain Babar Azam, who became only the fifth Pakistan to claim series win in his debut series as captain, has aimed to assert his authority in Test series on away tours. The 26-year-old Babar led Pakistan to a 2-0 sweep over the Proteas in Rawalpindi on Monday in a hard-fought 95-run win on the final day of the second Test. “We have won at home, but we now need to win on away tours. I am sure that as time will pass, we will do that. We lost in New Zealand and there were so many negative things said, but I am sure that now people will back us,” Babar said a virtual presser. Read: ‘Pakistani pacers reminded me of Wasim-Waqar era’ Shoaib Akhtar “It was a much-needed win and the best part of this series win is that now we are number five in Test rankings,” he added. Meanwhile, Babar urged critics to stay patient in for the results as it takes time to build a new team. “It will take time because it’s a new team. I am a new captain and we have made some changes to the squad,” he said. “When you win it lifts your confidence and I am sure this win against South Africa will give us improvement,” he added. Babar reiterated that this series win is a good sign but still there’s a lot of room for improvement. “It’s a welcome sign but we have to further improve.” Babar hailed Hasan Ali who took 10 wickets in the match and took the game away from the visitors. “Hassan Ali’s comeback after one year, showed a lot of character. It was outstanding from Hassan because he has game-awareness and he took full advantage of the experience he has of playing here,” he maintained. Note, both teams will now lock horns in a three-match T20I series at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore from February 11. Read more:David Miller enjoying his time in Pakistan Comments comments

‘Pakistani pacers reminded me of Wasim-Waqar era’ Shoaib Akhtar
By admin | | 0 Comments |

Karachi: Former sppedster Shoaib Akhtar had a nostalgic feeling after viewing a great display of fast bowling by Pakistan in the second Test against South Africa at Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi. The 46-year-old Akhtar on his YouTube channel said that this bowling by Pakistani pacers took him back to a golden time of Pakistan Cricket ‘The Wasim-Waqar Era’. “After a very long time, Pakistan pacers exhibited the purest form of fast bowling which we all were looking forward to seeing,” Akhtar said. “It was commanding fast bowling and the art which Wasim-Waqar used to do. There was reverse swing, length-ball dismissals,” he added. Read: Cricket fraternity reacts to Pakistan’s historic series win over South Africa Meanwhile, Akhtar praised Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah and Mohammad Rizwan for their match-winning performances, giving Pakistan a historic series win over South Africa. “Well-done Hasan Ali. You’ve struggled for one whole year due to injuries but when he came back, his progression from first to the second Test, leading him to the peak. Not to forget Rizwan as his knock made up the whole match,” he appreciated. “Shaheen came, he bowled fast with attitude. It’s a team game, it’s healthy competition between Sarfaraz and me but we have a lot of respect and admiration for each other.” Rizwan mentioned that he learned a lot from Asad Shafiq, who used to bat mostly with the tail. “You have to learn to bat with the tail and at this level you cannot make any excuses that you were batting with the tail-enders. Batting with the tail-enders is tough and I watched how Asad Shafiq batted with the tail and learnt a lot from him,” he maintained.
